Description
UFMC Filters
Undeniably there are a number of applications for the Upflow Floating Media Clarification (UFMC) System.
Essentially, UFMC Filters particulate matter from water which lends itself to a number of applications, some of which are mentioned here:

Potable Water The UFMC System can clarify most surface water for potable water use. Also it is capable of producing millions of litres of clarified water per day and to date has been primarily used for providing communities with safe drinking water.
Sewage Waste Water Purification The UFMC Filters can filter recovered sewage processed water for non-potable uses, for example: irrigation, washing, flushing of toilets etc. Flush Recycling Conventional systems are inefficient by comparison in terms of waste water produced. The UFMC System has been successfully used to increase the output capacity of existing filtration plants where, for example, a conventional plant has reached its limit and additional capacity is needed in a short period of time. Afterward reprocessing settled flush water through the UFMC System, capacity can be increased. Mobile for Disaster Response The UFMC System can be moved around on a trailer and run off a generator to produce clarified water for post disaster applications. It’s versatility allows for use in various situations where fixed infrastructure is unfeasible or impossible. UFMC’s smallest unit can be run off a less than 5Kw generator or other power source. Cooling Tower Sidestream Filtration Benefits of UFMC:Modular & ScalableUFMC is a modular system that can be scaled up simply by adding units in series or in parallel. In addition to the ability to scale, various filter sizes are available to meet your capacity requirements. In contrast to conventional filtration systems, UFMC requires far less initial capital outlay and capacity planning for future demand – simply add new units as and when demand increases. Automated OperationUFMC decreases your operational costs through automation of the flush cycle, reduction of labor such as day-to-day supervision, and limited to no system maintenance. We only need to monitor and adjust cycle times infrequently, based on the quality of the input water. With larger plants we have seen a reduction of staff needed from three down to one person per shift. Automation is controlled by a programmable control panel that cycles a unit, or a number of units, using standard pneumatic or electric valves and switches. Reduced DowntimeFor flushing, the control panel automates this procedure in series to allow for an uninterrupted flow. Rapid InstallationUFMC water purification plant can be up and running in a matter weeks, rather than months or years. This type of flexibility significantly reduces capacity planning and time to go live. EfficientDue to its unique, patented design the UFMC System uses far less service water than conventional systems. The UFMC System is typically between 1% and 2% and can quickly flush the filtration media through its short, effective flush cycle. MobilityThe UFMC System is not a permanent installation as with traditional sand filtration systems. Self-Cleaning, The Flush Cycle & MediaA key aspect of the design of UFMC is the ability to have short, but highly efficient flush cycles. That is, there is a minimal amount of waste water in flushing the filtration media, an average of 1% and usually less than 2%. This percentage varies based on the quality of the input water. Flush cycles can occur many times a day, allowing for far less media per volume of water, and in contrast to conventional sand filtration systems, a much shorter cleaning cycle. A flush or cleaning cycle consists of four stages: 1. Normal Flow (Filtration) MaintenanceUFMC was designed for the developing world. The system was designed to be locally sustainable where parts are replaceable and available with off-the-shelf components. This simplified system allows for easy and cost effective maintenance. Ancillaries such as compressor, dosing pumps and valves and other parts are all readily available for normal wear and tear replacement. The media used for filtration is inert, lasts for many years and is relatively inexpensive to replace. Cost EffectiveThe UFMC water treatment & clarification system costs a fraction of the price of conventional treatment plants and was designed for the developing world – to be built from off-the-shelf, locally available parts. This simplified way of clarifying water allows for easy and cost effective maintenance.
