Description
Firstly a PVC Adaptor with female thread 75mm x 3″ is a type of fitting with an internal (female) thread on one end and a non-threaded “plain” or “slip” end on the other. Then the plain end is solvent-welded to a PVC pipe. Allowing you to connect it to a male-threaded fitting, pipe, or other component.
When to use a PVC female adapter
A Adaptor with female thread 75mm x 3″ is used to connect a plain-end PVC pipe to a component that has a male (external) thread. Some common applications include:
- Plumbing: Connecting PVC pipes to fixtures, faucets, and valves.
- Irrigation: Transitioning a solvent-welded pipe to a male-threaded sprinkler or valve.
- Pools and spas: Attaching PVC pipe to filtration systems and pumps.
Important considerations
- Threading: While both female and male threaded fittings have tapered threads, over tightening a PVC female fitting can cause it to split. The general recommendation is to finger-tighten the fitting and then add only one to two turns.
- Sealant: Use pipe dope or PTFE paste to help create a proper seal when assembling PVC threaded fittings. PTFE tape is intended for metal connections and can add excessive strain to plastic threads.
- Material: Most adapters are made from unplasticised polyvinyl chloride (PVC-U), which is durable and rigid.
