Katalox light media is designed to remove Iron, Manganese, Hydrogen Sulfide (Inorganics).

If Katalox Light® is used for manganese reduction, the pH of the raw water should be between 8.0 and 8.5 if you are also attempting to treat iron, or 8.0 and 9.0 if treating only manganese. pH greater than 8.5 could cause formation of colloidal iron which is very hard to filter.
Once the head loss within the filter has reached in the range of typical 0.5 bar – 0.7 bar (7 psi – 10 psi), the Katalox Light® media bed should be backwashed. Backwash Time – 10-15 minutes: Backwash should begin slowly. Backwash should continue until the backwash water appears to be clean
