Installation Instructions

Installation Requirements

Firstly the Domestic brass water meter – CL C pulse ready – 15mm is approved by the NRCS. For vertical and horizontal installation and its accuracy is not affected by the angle of installation.

This water meter must be installed using the correct water meter tail pieces. As a matter of fact we sell water meters including tail pieces.

N.B. Standard female pipe adaptors must not be screwed directly onto the inlet/outlet of the water meter itself under any circumstances.

Note: This is a cold-water meter with a maximum working temperature of 50 °C. As a result should the water temperature at the metering point exceed this, this meter will be damaged irreparably. Do not solder capillary-type fittings while fitted to the meter or use heat while this meter is fitted in the pipeline. Heat travels through the pipe during this process and this will damage the internals of the water meter irreparably.

Any position where the meter may be subjected to shock, cavitation, water hammer or surging due to rapid operation of valves etc. must be avoided as damage to the meter will result.

Ensure that the pipework at the metering point lines up correctly so that damage to the meter by installation stresses is prevented.

Another key point precautions must be taken to prevent freezing. All things considered a meter will be damaged and could even burst if the water freezes. The meter should also be installed at least one meter away from any freezing point like a standpipe for example where the water can freeze back down the pipeline from that point.

Installation Requirements
  • Fit the separately supplied tailpieces to the water meter using the sealing washers supplied.
  • Turn P.T.F.E. thread sealing tape onto the male end threads of the tailpiece linings.
  • Now turn suitable female pipe adaptors onto the male end of the tailpiece lining. N.B. Be careful not to overtight as this will cause the joint to leak. The thread sealing tape creates the waterproof seal, not the tightness of the fitting.
  • Select a position where the water meter will always be full of water and never position it at the discharge end of a pipe.
  • An arrow is cast into the body of the water meter indicating the direction of flow. Take note of the direction of flow in the pipeline and ensure that the meter is installed the correct way around when doing the installation. A built-in non-return valve will close and prevent water flow should the meter be installed in reverse.
  • A shutoff valve must be installed in the pipeline upstream of the meter for ease of future maintenance.
  • Fit the meter by connecting the pipe to the pipe adaptors and tightening the fittings.
  • When charging the lines, turn the water on gradually to ensure that all air is expelled before the valve is fully open. A water meter will suffer irreparable damage if subjected to high velocity air before it has been completely expelled from the system. The pipeline must be filled with water with all air present expressed before the valve is opened fully. The meter will then operate correctly.
