A Calcite filter is primarily intended for pH correction and neutralisation of acidic water. It is not a complete water purification system and does not remove all contaminants from water.

For best results, a raw water analysis should be conducted before selecting a treatment system. Depending on the water quality, additional filtration such as sediment filtration, activated carbon, iron removal, manganese removal, softening, UV disinfection or Reverse Osmosis may be required.

Description

The 8″ pH Correction System Including Calcite with Manual Backwash Head is an effective water treatment solution designed to neutralise acidic water and raise pH to a more balanced level. It is ideal for borehole water, well water and other water supplies where low pH can cause corrosion, plumbing damage and the leaching of metals.

The system uses Calcite filtration media, a naturally occurring calcium carbonate media that gradually dissolves as water passes through the filter bed. This process increases the pH of acidic water while helping to reduce the corrosive effects associated with low-pH water.

One of the major advantages of Calcite is its self-limiting property. When correctly applied, the media raises the pH only enough to reach a non-corrosive equilibrium under normal operating conditions, helping to prevent excessive pH correction.

The system comes with a manual backwash control head that provides a simple and reliable method of maintaining the filter media without requiring electricity. Periodic backwashing helps prevent media compaction, reclassifies the media bed and helps maintain filtration efficiency.

The compact 8″ configuration works particularly well for residential and light commercial applications where space is limited. Depending on water chemistry, pH levels and service flow, the Calcite media will require periodic replenishment as it is gradually consumed during the neutralisation process.

Benefits of pH Correction:

Acidic water can contribute to corrosion of plumbing systems, copper pipes, valves, pumps, water heaters and other equipment. Low-pH water can also increase the potential for metal leaching, which may negatively affect water quality.

Calcite gradually dissolves into the water, neutralising acidity and helping to establish a more balanced pH. The manual backwash valve allows accumulated particles to be removed from the media bed while helping to prevent channeling and media compaction.

Because Calcite is consumed during the neutralisation process, the media will require periodic replenishment based on water quality, pH and water consumption. Under suitable operating conditions, the system provides a simple and dependable solution for acidic water treatment.

It is also worth noting that Calcite can increase water hardness as it dissolves. Depending on the resulting water chemistry, you may therefore need to install a water softener downstream.
