Description

The Blue Lagoon AOP compact ozone & UV-C 75W is a compact UV-C water-treatment system designed for swimming pool circulation systems. The unit uses a 75 W UV-C lamp to provide ultraviolet treatment as pool water passes through the reactor.

The Blue Lagoon AOP compact name refers to the manufacturer’s ozone and UV-C/AOP technology platform. Please note that this product does not include a separate ozone generator. The product supplied by The Water Company is the UV-C unit and associated components specified for the BLO75.

UV-C treatment works by exposing microorganisms in the circulating pool water to ultraviolet radiation. The UV-C radiation damages the genetic material of microorganisms, helping to inactivate them as the water passes through the UV-C reactor.

Install the unit directly into the swimming pool circulation line and design it to operate as part of a complete pool water-treatment system. It is compatible with chlorine-treated and salt electrolysis swimming pool systems.

UV-C treatment provides microbiological control but does not remove suspended solids, sediment, dissolved minerals, salts or other non-microbiological contaminants. The swimming pool should therefore have appropriate filtration and water-quality management in place.

Important: Ozone generator not included

The BLO75 supplied by The Water Company does not include a separate ozone generator.

The term “Ozone & UV-C” forms part of the Blue Lagoon product designation and refers to the manufacturer’s AOP technology. Customers requiring a complete ozone-generation system should ensure that the required ozone-generation equipment is separately specified and supplied.

Installation:

The BLO75 is designed for installation within the swimming pool circulation line. Install the unit so that the pool water passes through the UV-C reactor at an appropriate flow rate. The recommended flow rate is 18 m³/h at a UV-C dose of 30 mJ/cm², with a maximum flow rate of 23 m³/h.

Correct sizing and installation are important to ensure that the system operates within its specified performance range. Install the unit in accordance with the manufacturer’s installation instructions and connect it to a compatible swimming pool circulation system.

Water quality considerations:

UV-C treatment is most effective when the water is sufficiently clear to allow UV-C radiation to reach microorganisms. The swimming pool should have appropriate mechanical filtration to remove suspended solids and other particles that can interfere with UV-C transmission.

UV-C treatment does not remove:

  • Sediment.
  • Sand.
  • Rust.
  • Suspended solids.
  • Dissolved salts.
  • Water hardness.
  • Heavy metals.
  • Chemicals.
  • Other dissolved contaminants.

Therefore consider the BLO75 one component of a complete swimming pool water-treatment system.

Pool chemical management
  • UV-C treatment does not replace the need for appropriate swimming pool water-quality management.
  • Pool water should continue to be tested regularly and maintained within the appropriate chemical and microbiological parameters for the installation.
  • The use of UV-C can form part of a broader strategy for managing pool water quality and may help reduce reliance on some conventional treatment chemicals when the complete system is correctly designed and operated.
Maintenance:
  • Regular maintenance is required to maintain effective UV-C performance.
  • The UV-C lamp should be replaced according to the manufacturer’s recommended service interval. The quartz sleeve should also be inspected and cleaned as required to maintain effective UV-C transmission.
  • The lamp replacement indicator assists with maintenance scheduling.
  • Always isolate and switch off the electrical supply before installing, inspecting, cleaning or servicing the unit.
Safety:
  • UV-C radiation can cause serious injury to the eyes and skin.
  • Never look directly at an operating UV-C lamp.
  • Always isolate and switch off the electrical supply before installing, removing, inspecting or servicing the lamp or UV-C reactor.
  • The unit should be installed and operated in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions and applicable electrical requirements.
Ozone generator clarification:

The BLO75 supplied by The Water Company does not include a separate ozone generator. If an installation requires ozone generation in addition to UV-C treatment, the required ozone-generation equipment must be specified and supplied separately.

Customers should contact The Water Company if they require assistance selecting a suitable ozone system for their swimming pool application.
