Housing size: Check whether you need a 10-inch or 20-inch standard housing, a Big Blue housing or a bag filter housing.

Connection size: Confirm the inlet and outlet sizes match your pipework and required flow rate.

Cartridge compatibility: Check the cartridge length, diameter, end configuration and intended filtration function.

Operating pressure: Ensure the housing is suitable for the maximum pressure and temperature of your application.

Water demand: Larger housings may offer greater dirt-holding capacity, but the actual flow rate depends on the cartridge, water pressure and system design.

Installation space: Allow enough room to remove the housing sump and replace the cartridge.

Application: Select the appropriate cartridge for sediment, chlorine, taste, odour or another specific treatment requirement.

A filter housing does not normally perform the filtration by itself; the cartridge or filter element inside it determines the primary filtration function. For example, a PP sediment cartridge captures suspended particles, while an activated carbon cartridge is commonly used to reduce chlorine and improve taste and odour.

For borehole water with concerns such as iron, manganese, hardness or microbiological contamination, a cartridge housing alone may not provide the required treatment. Water analysis can help determine the appropriate filtration and treatment stages.
